When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

A CHECK OIL LEVEL message will appear on the instrument panel when the engine oil is approximately one quart low. The electrical portion of the system must be checked if the oil level is not lower than one quart. Once this is confirmed to be working, proceed as follows.

Recommendation/Instructions:

CHECK OIL LEVEL message reset procedure:

NOTE: To reset the CHECK OIL LEVEL message, the engine coolant sensor must see a temperature reduction of at least 10 degrees Celsius ( 18 degrees F) between key cycles.

  1. Verify and correct engine oil level along with circuits/sensor for this system.
  2. With engine off, allow vehicle to sit for up to 2 hours to achieve coolant temperature reduction. Note: Confirmation of coolant temperature reduction can be accomplished with the use of a scan tool.
  3. Push and hold the lower portion of the ignition switch for 5 seconds with the brake depressed to enter the "RUN" mode, leave it there for at least 1 second. Do not start the engine.
  4. Turn off the ignition.
  5. Start the vehicle.
  6. Confirm the CHECK OIL LEVEL message is no longer displayed.If the message is displayed, check the engine oil dipstick level and add oil as needed.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
