Camshaft Cover Replacement Right

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the nuts retaining the engine fuel rail (sight) cover.
  3. Remove the engine fuel rail (sight) cover from the engine.

  5. Disconnect the 4 DIS connectors.
  6. Remove the 4 mounting bolts.
  7. Unsnap the clamp in order to remove the ignition wire harness from the retainer.
  8. Remove the DIS.
  9. Remove the right bank of spark plug wires.
  10. Remove the PCV valve from the right cam cover.
  11. Remove the EVAP purge solenoid from the right cam cover. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve Replacement in Engine Controls.
  12. Remove the nuts from the studs of the brake master cylinder.
  13. Position the master cylinder to the side. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  14. Unsnap the wire harness clamp in order to remove the wire harness from the cam cover.

  16. Remove the cam cover bolts from the cam cover.
  17. Remove the cam cover.
  18. Remove the gaskets and the seals.
  19. Clean the mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the gaskets and the seals to the cam cover.
  2. Install the cam cover to the vehicle.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the bolts to the cam cover.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Connect the wiring harness clamp in order to install the wiring harness to the cam cover.
  7. Position the master cylinder.
  8. Install the nuts to the studs in order to retain the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  9. Install the bolts in order to retain the wire harness to the cam cover.
  10. Install the EVAP purge solenoid to the cam cover. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve Replacement in Engine Controls.
  11. Install the PCV valve to the right cam cover.
  12. Raise the engine cradle into position and install two mounting bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  14. Secure the wiring harness to the cam cover with three screws.
  15. Install the brake master cylinder.
  16. Secure the purge canister solenoid with one screw.
  17. Connect the PCV valve.

  19. Install the DIS.
  20. Install the right bank of spark plug wires.
  21. Position the ignition wire harness to the retainer.
  22. Connect the clamp to the ignition wire harness.
  23. Connect the 4 DIS electrical connectors.
  24. Install the 4 mounting bolts.
  25. Install the engine fuel rail (sight) cover to the engine.
  26. Install nuts in order to retain the engine fuel rail (sight) cover.
  27. Connect the negative battery cable.
