Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover

    Caution: Refer to SIR Service Precautions in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the front bucket seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket .
  3. Remove the seat back trim finish cover. Refer to Front Seat Back Trim Replacement .
  4. Remove the upper front seat belt post cover.

  6. Remove the 2 seat belt post finish cover fasteners.
  7. Important: Use the J 38778 in order to remove the retainer inside the finish cover.

  8. Disengage the retainer located at the center of the finish cover.

  10. Remove the seat belt post finish cover.
  11. Remove the shoulder belt retractor. Refer to Seat Belt Replacement - Driver or Passenger in Seat Belts.
  12. Remove the seat back cover and pad. Refer to Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement .

  14. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the lumbar and the SIR.

  15. Object Number: 295170  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the heated seat.
  17. Disconnect the air lines and the electrical connectors for the adaptive lumbar.

  18. Object Number: 334253  Size: SH
  19. Remove the seat back cover J channels on the left and the right sides and the bottom in order to access 4 bolts (2 on the left side and 2 on the right side).

  21. Remove the 4 bolts retaining the seat back frame to the recliner.
  22. Lift straight up on the seat back frame in order to disengage the seat back frame from the lower recliner assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Slide the seat back straight down into recliner assembly and align the bolt holes.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install 4 seat back frame bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the seat back frame bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. Reconnect the heated seat electrical connectors, or the air lines and the electrical connectors onto the adaptive lumbar.

  6. Object Number: 295159  Size: SH
  7. Reconnect the SIR and the lumbar electrical connectors.
  8. Install the seat back cover and pad. Refer to Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement .
  9. Install the front seat belt shoulder retractor. Refer to Seat Belt Replacement - Driver or Passenger in Seat Belts.

  10. Object Number: 547120  Size: SH
  11. Install the rear seat belt post finish cover.
  12. Install the seat back trim cover. Refer to Front Seat Back Trim Replacement .
  13. Install the front bucket seat into the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket .
  14. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
