Steering Column Tilt/Telescoping Inoperative LHD

Was the Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column System Check performed?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the steering column tilt/telescoping module (TTM) connector C1.
  3. Connect a DDM set to DC volts scale between the TTM connector C1 terminal E and ground.

Refer to Measuring Voltage in Wiring Systems.

Is the measured voltage within the range shown?

10--15 V

Go to Step 4

Repair open in CKT 2840 (ORN).

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the circuit repair complete?

--

Go to Step 11

Connect a DMM between the TTM connector C1 terminal D and ground.

Refer to Measuring Voltage in Wiring Systesm.

Is the measured voltage within the range shown?

10--15 V

Repair open in CKT 2940 (ORN).

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the circuit repair complete?

Connect a DDM between the TTM connector C1 terminal C and battery positive voltage (B+).

Refer to Measuring Voltage in Wiring Systems.

Is the measured voltage within the range shown?

10--15 V

Connect a DDM between ground splice pack G200 terminal J and battery positive voltage (B+).

Refer to Measuring Voltage in Wiring Systems.

Is the measured voltage within the range shown?

10--15 V

Repair open CKT 350 (BLK).

Refer to Measuring Voltage in Wiring Systems.

Is the circuit repair complete?

Check that ground terminal G200 is clean and tight. If OK, replace ground splice pack G200.

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 11

  1. Check the steering column tilt/telescoping module (TTM) connector C1 for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the TTM. Refer to Tilt Actuator Assembly Replacement - On Vehicle and Telescope Actuator Assembly Replacement - On Vehicle .
  3. After replacement, reset the soft stops. Refer to Steering Column Control Module Programming .

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check.Refer to Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column Diagnostic System Check .

  3. Connect a non powered test lamp between the TTM connector C1 terminal E and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair open in CKT 2840 (ORN).

Is the circuit repair complete?

Connect a non powered test lamp between the TTM connector C1 terminal D and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair open in CKT 2940 (ORN).

Connect a non powered test lamp between the TTM connector C1 terminal C and battery positive voltage (B+).

Connect a non powered test lamp between ground splice pack G201 and battery positive voltage (B+).

Repair open CKT 450 (BLK).

Is the circuit repair complete?

Check that ground terminal G201 is clean and tight. If OK, replace ground splice pack G201.

  1. Replace the steering wheel control switch assembly. Refer to Steering Wheel Control Switch Assembly Replacement .
  2. After replacement, reset the soft stops. Refer to Steering Column Control Module Programming .
