Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 24319-B Universal Steering Linkage Puller


    Object Number: 397529  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire.
  3. Remove the hex nut.

  4. Object Number: 105028  Size: SH
  5. Loosen the inner adjustment link nut.

  6. Object Number: 104996  Size: SH
  7. Using J 24319-B separate the adjustment link form the knuckle.
  8. Remove the inner adjument link nut and bolt.
  9. Remove the tie rod assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 397546  Size: SH
  1. Install the tie rod assembly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the inner part of the tie rod assembly to the support.
  4. Install the inner nut and bolt to the frame support.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  6. Install the outer adjustment link to the control arm.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 50 N·m (36 lb ft).

  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 N·m (100 lb ft).

  10. Install the wheel and tire.
  11. Check toe adjustment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in Wheel Alignment.
