Was the Cellular Telephone System Check performed?

  1. Make sure the telephone is on and that the handset is docked.
  2. Press the PHONE button on the LH side steering wheel controls.

Does a beep sound through the audio system speakers?

Go to Step 5

Check the telephone volume display on the driver information center (DIC).

Is the phone volume adjusted to more than 5 bars on the display?

Go to Step 7

Increase the phone volume, as indicated on the DIC.

Is the adjustment complete?

Observe the telephone handset display.

Is the MUTE message illuminated (indicating that the hands free microphone is muted)?

  1. Press the keys FCN and STO at the same time on the handset keypad.
  2. Press the PHONE button on the LH side steering wheel control.

Does a beep sound from the audio speakers?

Diagnose the audio system under hands free operation. Refer to Cellular Telephone - Audio Inoperative During Hands-Free

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the cellular telephone module connector.
  3. Disconnect the cellular telephone microphone connector.
  4. Using a DMM set to DC volts scale, check the voltage between cellular telephone module connector terminals 14 and 15.

Is the measured voltage in the range shown?

Above 0.5 Volts

Go to Step 9

Repair short to battery positive voltage on CKT 655 (GRY).

Is the circuit repair complete?

  1. Connect fused jumpers from cellular telephone microphone connector terminal A to ground and terminal B to ground.
  2. Using a DMM set to ohms scale, measure the resistance from cellular telephone module connector terminal 14 to ground, then terminal 15 to ground.

Is the measured resistance in the range shown for each measurement?

Less than 2ohms

Go to Step 12

Repair open or high resistance in CKT 655 (GRY) or in the microphone return circuit.

Is the circuit repair complete?

  1. Replace the cellular telephone microphone with a known good microphone. Refer to Hands-Free Microphone Replacement .
  2. Reconnect the cellular telephone module connector.
  3. Attempt to establish hands free operation.

Is the hands free operation OK?

--

Go to Step 13

  1. Check the cellular telephone microphone connector for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, the cellular telephone microphone (replaced in step 12) is faulty.

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Check cellular telephone module connector for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the cellular telephone module. Refer to Radio Frequency Booster and Bracket Assembly Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Cellular Telephone System Check .

Is the system check complete?

System OK
