Abnormal or Excessive Tire Wear

Problem

Action

    • The front or rear wheel alignment.
    • Excessive toe.
    • Excessive camber.

Inspect components for wear.

Perform an alignment.

Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications

The springs are broken or sagging.

Inspect and service as required.

Tires are improperly rotated.

Inspect tire(s) and/or replace as required.

Refer to Tire Mounting and Dismounting in Tire and Wheels

The vehicle is overloaded.

Reduce the vehicle load

The tire or wheel is out-of-balance.

Balance as required.

Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (LG5 with FH4) in Vibratioin Diagnosis and Correction.

Scuffed

Problem

Action

The tire pressure is low.

Inflate the tire(s) to proper specifications.

Refer to Tire Inflation Pressure Specifications in Maintenance and Lubrication.

The toe is incorrect.

  1. Check the toe.
  2. Perform an alignment.

Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .

The control arm is bent or twisted.

Replace as needed.

Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.
