Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 205499  Size: SH
  3. Remove the four bolts (1) retaining the injector sight shield. .
  4. Remove the sight shield.

  5. Object Number: 54606  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the wire from the "S" terminal on the starter.
  7. Disconnect the battery cable from the starter.
  8. Remove the starter mounting bolts.
  9. Remove the starter.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Before installing the starter motor to the engine, tighten the inner nuts on the solenoid terminals to be sure that they are secure in the cap. Tighten the inner nuts on the battery terminal and the starter motor terminal to 8 N·m (70 lb in). If the nuts are not properly tightened, the starter may fail later due to terminal or cap damage.

  1. Connect the solenoid switch lead.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 3 N·m (26 lb in).

  3. Install the battery cable nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 8 N·m (70 lb in).

  5. Install the starter motor.
  6. Install the starter motor mounting bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  8. Install the injector sight shield.

  9. Object Number: 205499  Size: SH
  10. Install the four bolts (1) in order to retain the injector sight shield. .

  11. Object Number: 154778  Size: SH
  12. Connect the positive battery cable.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).


  14. Object Number: 154782  Size: SH
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
