Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 38816-1A Water Pump Remover/Installer

  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the left engine torque strut. Refer to Torque Strut in Engine Mechanical.
  3. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner in Engine Controls.

  5. Remove the water pump belt cover.

  6. Object Number: 69920  Size: SH
  7. Remove the water pump drive belt.
  8. Remove the bypass hose.

  9. Object Number: 71141  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing.

  11. Object Number: 69918  Size: SH
  12. Remove the water pump cover.

  13. Object Number: 69917  Size: SH
  14. Using the J 38816-1A , turn the pump clockwise in order to remove the pump from the housing.
  15. Remove the water pump from the vehicle.
  16. Clean the water pump and the sealing surfaces of the pump cover.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 69917  Size: SH
  1. In order to install the water pump, use the J 38816-1A . Turn the J 38816-1A counterclockwise.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the water pump to 100 N·m (73 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the water pump cover.
  4. Install the pump cover housing bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the housing bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the thermostat housing.

  7. Object Number: 69920  Size: SH
  8. Install the bypass hose.
  9. Install the water pump drive belt.

  10. Object Number: 69921  Size: SH
  11. Install the water pump belt cover.
  12. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner in Engine Controls.
  13. Install the left engine torque strut. Refer to Torque Strut in Engine Mechanical.
  14. Refill the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
