1ST/2ND GEAR SLIPS THM325-4L REPLACE ACCUMULATOR HOUSING

FIRST AND SECOND GEAR SLIPS, BURNED BAND AND/OR DIRECT CLUTCH 1983 THM 325-4L - ALL MODELS

Some 1983 Eldorados and Sevilles equipped with THM 325-4L transmissions may exhibit one or more of the following conditions:

1. First and second gear slips 2. Slips only in second gear when hot 3. 3-2 flare at approximately 30 MPH 4. Burned band and/or direct clutch

The above conditions may be caused by an oversized 1-2 piston pin hole in the accumulator housing (Figure #1). During second gear operation, the piston will apply, but oil may exhaust out the oversized pin hole, and applied intermediate clutch pressure will be lost.

When servicing any 1983 THM 325-4L transmission for any of the above conditions, cbeck the 1-2 accumulator piston pin for a slip fit. If the pin fits loosely in the pin hole, the accumulator housing (P/N 8635935) must be replaced.

For warranty purposes, use labor Operation Number K6660 at 1.4 hours.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
