Circuit Description

The left front exterior door handle and right front exterior door handle switch signal circuits provide inputs to the driver door module (DDM) and passenger door module (PDM) when an exterior door handle switch is activated. These inputs allow the door module to detect a door open request. The door modules provide voltage to the door handle switches. If the door module detects that a ground is applied for greater than 30 seconds continuously, a DTC is set and the door module will ignore the door handle switch input.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B3849 Exterior Door Handle Switch Circuit

DTC Symptom

DTC Symptom Descriptor

02

Short to Ground

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The DDM and PDM must be powered.
    • DTC B1325 Battery Voltage Out of Range, must not be current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The DDM or PDM detects that the exterior door handle switch signal circuit is closed for more than 30 continuous seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The DDM or PDM ignores inputs from the exterior door handle switch until the switch changes state.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
    • You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command.
    • A history DTC will clear once 40 consecutive malfunction free ignition cycles have occurred.

Diagnostic Aids

An intermittently sticking exterior door handle can cause this DTC to set. Thoroughly inspect the wiring and connectors. An incomplete inspection of the wiring and connectors may result in misdiagnosis causing part replacement with the reappearance of the malfunction. If an intermittent malfunction exists, refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .
