Circuit/System Description

The rear compartment lid ajar switch is normally open when the trunk is fully closed. When the trunk is open the rear compartment lid ajar switch contact is closed providing a path to ground. When the rear compartment lid ajar switch is closed, the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal to the rear integration module (RIM) is grounded. The RIM reports the switch status by sending a serial data message to the IPC indicating the trunk ajar status. The IPC displays TRUNK AJAR in the driver information center (DIC).

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition ON, scan tool installed and the rear compartment fully open, verify the rear compartment lid ajar parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) Data List is Trunk Closed.
  2. If not, replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC).
  3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  4. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit and ground.
  5. If greater than 1 ohm, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  6. Ignition ON, install a 3 Amp fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal circuit and ground. Verify that the rear compartment lid ajar parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) Data List is Trunk Open.
  7. If not, test the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RIM.
  8. If all circuits tests normal, replace the rear compartment lid release actuator.
