  1. Install the housing support bushing, if necessary. Refer to Differential Housing Support Bushing Replacement.
  2. Support the housing in a press in the axle seal area.
  3. Using the J 24433  (2) and the J 45010  (1) install the shim (18) and the bearing cup (19) into the differential housing.

  4. Object Number: 777618  Size: SH
  5. Lightly lube the outer diameter of the seal with axle lube.
  6. Using the J 45017 , install the axle oil seal into the housing.

  7. Object Number: 1237782  Size: SH
  8. Install the selected shims or marked shims (2) on the pinion housing assembly (1) and the O-ring (3).
  9. Apply a light coat of oil to the pinion housing assembly (1) and the O-ring (3).

  11. Use the bolts from J 45019 .
  12. Align the cage bolts to the carrier bolt holes.
  13. Heat carrier with J 25070 and push the cage into place.
  14. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 777619  Size: SH
  15. Install the 6 pinion assembly bolts and tighten in a criss-cross pattern to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  16. Object Number: 777529  Size: SH
  17. Install the differential carrier (2) into the housing (1).

  18. Object Number: 777615  Size: SH
  19. Lightly lube the outer diameter of the seal with axle lube.
  20. Using the J 45017 , install the axle oil seal into the differential side cover.

  21. Object Number: 783963  Size: SH
  22. Install the housing cover O-ring (2) into the groove on the housing cover (3).
  23. Apply a light coat of oil to the housing cover O-ring (2), install the housing cover (3) onto the housing (1).
  24. Install the 9 side cover bolts (4) and tighten in a criss-cross pattern to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  25. Install the drain plug and fill the axle with axle lube. Refer to Axle Lubricant Change.
