Diagnostic Aids

The power folding seat must be in the seated position before the seat back recline function will operate from the recline switch.

Test Description

The number below refer to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step checks the existing state of the back panel position switch by using the current state of the switch parameter. With the power folding seat in the stowed position, the back panel position switch contacts should be closed to voltage and the Back Panel Position Switch parameter should display Active.

DEFINITION: The folding seat recline function is inoperative from the recline switch, or during seat operation the seat back will not recline to the full seated position.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Verify that the Power Third Row Seat Recline Inoperative complaint is present.

Does the power folding seat operate as described in the system description and operation?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Recline Switch parameter in the Rear Seat Module data list.
  4. Press the folding seat recline switch.

Does the Recline Switch parameter display Active?

  1. Place the rear folding seat in the stowed position.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Back Panel Position Switch parameter in the Rear Seat Module data list.

Does the scan tool display Active?

  1. Disconnect the rear seat module connector C2.
  2. Measure the resistance between the back panel position switch supply voltage circuit and the back panel position switch signal circuit of the module connector.
  3. Press the pad on the back panel position switch in order to activate the switch.

Does the resistance measure less than the specified value?

5 ohms

  1. Disconnect the recline switch connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the battery positive voltage circuit of the switch connector to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the battery positive voltage circuit of the switch connector and the recline switch signal circuit of the switch connector.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Recline Switch parameter in the Rear Seat Module data list.

Does the Recline Switch parameter display Active?

Test the recline switch signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the supply voltage circuit and the signal circuit of the back panel position switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the back panel position switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the folding seat recline switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear seat module (RSM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs .

Repair the open in the battery positive voltage circuit of the folding seat recline switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs .
