Liquid Line Replacement w/o C57

Tools Required

    • J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
    • J 45689 A/C Quick Joint Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner intake duct from the vehicle. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls-3.6L or Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.6.
  3. Remove the liquid line to condenser tube quick connect fitting. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 1348611  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the liquid line from the condenser tube.

  6. Object Number: 1207434  Size: SH
  7. Remove the evaporator tube from the strut tower retaining clip.

  8. Object Number: 817540  Size: SH
  9. Remove the liquid line to thermal expansion valve (TXV) liquid tube quick connect fitting (1). Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
  10. Disconnect the liquid line from the TXV liquid tube.
  11. Remove the liquid line from the vehicle.
  12. Remove and discard the O-rings from the liquid line. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new O-rings onto the liquid line. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Install the liquid line into the vehicle.

  3. Object Number: 817540  Size: SH
  4. Connect the liquid line to the TXV liquid tube.
  5. Install the A/C quick connect fitting (1) to the liquid line. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 1207434  Size: SH
  7. Install the evaporator tube to the strut tower retaining clip.

  8. Object Number: 1348611  Size: SH
  9. Connect the liquid line to the condenser tube.
  10. Install the liquid line to condenser tube quick connect fitting. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
  11. Gently tug on the liquid line to ensure that the clamp is engaged.
  12. Install the air cleaner intake duct to the vehicle. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls-3.6L Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.6.
  13. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  14. Leak test the fittings of the repaired or reinstalled component usingJ 39400-A .

Liquid Line Replacement w/C57

Tools Required

    • J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
    • J 45689 A/C Quick Connect Joint Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  3. Remove the surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor.
  5. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector.
  6. Remove the surge tank outlet hose bracket nuts from the cowl.
  7. Reposition the surge tank outlet hose.
  8. Remove the brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement .
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  11. Remove the liquid line quick connect fitting from the condenser tube. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
  12. Disconnect the liquid line from the condenser tube.

  13. Object Number: 817540  Size: SH
  14. Remove the liquid line quick connect fitting (1) from the evaporator. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
  15. Disconnect the liquid line from the evaporator.
  16. Remove and discard the O-rings from the liquid line. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 817540  Size: SH
  1. Install new O-rings to the liquid line. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Connect the liquid line to the evaporator.
  3. Install a quick connect fitting (1) to the liquid line at the evaporator. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
  4. Connect the liquid line to the condenser tube.
  5. Install a quick connect fitting to the liquid line at the condenser. Refer to Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
  6. Install the brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement .
  7. Reposition the surge tank outlet hose to the installed position.

  9. Install the surge tank outlet hose bracket nuts to the cowl.
  10. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  11. Connect the engine harness electrical connector.
  12. Connect the electrical connector to the wiper motor.
  13. Install the surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .
  14. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  15. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  16. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
