Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Place a suitable drain pan under the transmission.

  3. Object Number: 1373637  Size: SH
  4. Remove the bolt and disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines from the bypass valve. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Replacement - Rear .
  5. Remove the bolt from the oil cooler line retainer on the engine block. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Replacement - Rear . Position the oil cooler lines aside.

  6. Object Number: 1373627  Size: SH
  7. Remove the oxygen sensor wire bracket from the bypass valve stud and position the harness aside, if equipped.
  8. Remove the bypass valve retaining bolt/stud.
  9. Remove the bypass valve from the transmission.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1373631  Size: SH
  1. Install NEW seals (1) onto the transmission bypass valve.

  2. Object Number: 1373627  Size: SH
  3. Install the bypass valve to the transmission.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the bypass valve bolt or stud, depending on the application.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt or stud to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Install the oxygen sensor wire harness bracket to the stud, if equipped.

  9. Install the oil cooler line bracket to the engine block. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Replacement - Rear
  10. Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the bypass valve. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Replacement - Rear .
  11. Remove the drain pan and lower the vehicle.
  12. Fill the transmission to the proper level and check for leaks. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
