CASSETTE TAPE WILL NOT EJECT RETURN CTRL. HEAD TO AC-DELCO

SUBJECT: CASSETTE TAPE WILL NOT EJECT (RETURN RADIO CONTROL HEAD TO A AC-DELCO SHOP)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 "D" MODEL

Some 1992 Broughams built before VIN breakpoint 707550 may experience a condition where the cassette tape will cycle up and down but not eject when the "eject" button is pushed. The condition may occur on vehicles built with either the standard or optional radio system and is sensitive to the dimensions of the cassette tape cartridge. Some tapes will eject normally while others may repeatedly fail.

This condition may be caused by an interference between the tape door and internal circuit boards on vehicles with a certain tape door design. Refer to Figure 1. Early 1992 radios have a tape with a larger, symmetrical "bump" feature where the height and width dimensions are nearly equal. The revised door "bump" has a teardrop shape with less overall protrusion and is relatively narrow, similar to the design used in the 1991 model.

To repair the condition, return the radio control head to an authorized AC-Delco repair shop with a statement of the problem, and request that bulletin RD92TBA03 be performed to change the tape door. Or, request a pre-exchange control head. Request the repair shop verify that AC-Delco bulletin RD92TBA03 has been performed on the pre-exchange control head.

For vehicles being repaired under warranty use Labour Operation R0765, Radio Control Assembly R&R, at .2 hour.
