This bulletin updates DSIB 92-I-2.
On page 5, paint code 58 (Canyon Yellow Pearl) has been changed from WA# 5303 to WA# 5397. WA# 5397 reflects a change to the original color standard caused by a process change at the assembly plant.
Refer to Service bulletin T-88-168 or GM Training Center class number 22001.41 for tri-coat paint repair procedures.
Specific notes related to the handling of the color include:
1. DuPont is the OEM paint supplier for the Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly Plant.
2. As with other tri-coats, the painting of a "let-down" panel with this material and the painter's own equipment and technique is essential to completing a successful repair.
3. This color is particularly sensitive to color variation. A thin pearl coat will result in a yellow appearance, while additional layers of pearl will cause the colors to be significantly lighter.
4. Painting of fascias, moldings, or other small parts should be done in car position to minimize the effect of "flop" on the color match.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
