For 1992, to promote owner adherence to regular vehicle maintenance schedules, the Maintenance Information Section has been removed from the Owner's Manual and incorporated into a separate maintenance booklet (refer to enclosed sample). This is accomplished by combining:
o A convenient service reminder viewed through the booklet's cover.
o A listing of services required corresponding to Maintenance Schedule 1 at 3,000 mile intervals up to 120,000 miles.
o Providing space for a dealership verification stamp and recording when required maintenance services are performed.
An initial quantity of "Required Maintenance Performed" stamps is enclosed. Additional stamps, Item #S-2508 - Required Maintenance Performed rubber stamp, can be obtained for $3.00 each through:
Dealer Stationery Control PO. Box 2803 Livonia, MI 48150 Phone: 1-800-892-2000
When a vehicle is brought to the dealership for required maintenance, the maintenance booklet is used as follows:
1. Remove the coupon from the bottom of the page and attach to the work order with the "Maintenance Work To Be Done" side up. This will:
a. Inform the technician of the services that are to be done.
b. Expose the next coupon to remind the owner when next service will be due.
2. Complete the month and year portion of the newly-exposed coupon based on the owner's vehicle usage history. This will orient the customer to scheduling an appointment for the next required maintenance.
3. As each scheduled maintenance is completed, check off the services performed in the top portion of the page, fill in the date, mileage, and dealer information in the spaces provided along with placing the "Required Maintenance Performed" stamp in the box provided to verify completion. (Refer to sample Figure 1.)
The process is now complete until the next scheduled maintenance is required.
Please remember that the services and mileage intervals specified correspond to Maintenance Schedule 1 driving conditions which include the most likely experiences of stop-and-go city driving, trailer towing, dusty conditions, and short trips. If the customer's driving conditions are less demanding, the intervals and services may be altered up to Schedule 2 requirements. Please refer to page 12 of the maintenance booklet to determine which schedule to use and to pages 14 and 16 for the schedules.
This new maintenance booklet and a thorough explanation of its use is an important part of every "Gold Key Delivery" presentation. Recent industry customer surveys indicate this is an area of the delivery process with significant opportunity for Cadillac to improve customer satisfaction. Proper explanation and use of this maintenance booklet will increase service business in your dealership, and lead to higher customer satisfaction with Cadillac by ensuring vehicles receive the proper maintenance for a safer, more effecient, better performing, and more reliable Cadillac over its entire life.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
