DOOR LOCK DISENGAGEMENT (REPLACE DOOR LOCK)

SUBJECT: DOOR LOCK ROD DISENGAGEMENT

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990-1992 BROUGHAMS

Some 1990-1992 Broughams may experience a condition where the front door lock rod connecting the inside lock button to the latch assembly disengages due to bending of the actuation lever inside the lock mechanism.

To correct this condition replace the existing door lock with GMSPO P/N 16627544 (right hand) or 16627545 (left hand). Refer to the Service-Information Manual, 10-6-13, for the proper removal and installation of the door lock.

When reconnecting the inside button lock rod to the lock lever, the rod must be fully installed into the clip so that both retaining tabs on the clip engage the rod groove. Refer to Figure 1.

CAUTION:

Do not over install the rod beyond the groove as the lever will be subjected to additional stress during cycling of the lock.

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation B4260 at .7 hour for the right door lock or B4261 at .7 hour for the left door lock.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
