ACHIEVING PROPER WHEEL NUT TORQUE (INFORMATION)

SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON ACHIEVING PROPER WHEEL NUT TORQUE

Obtaining proper wheel nut torque is made both easier and faster by using the torque adapters from the attached information. These adapters are designed to absorb any additional torque applied by your pneumatic wrench beyond their designed value. This unique feature makes It possible to eliminate the need to tighten wheel nuts with a torque wrench, eliminating the potential for over-torqued wheel nuts.

Torque adapter set J-39544, consisting of three adapters, is necessary to properly service all Cadillac vehicles. An application chart for Cadillac and other GM vehicles is also included. Dealers wishing to purchase these kits or individual adapters may use the attached order form. Additional order forms are available by calling Kent-Moore at 1-800-345-2233.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
