On some 1991-1993 DeVilles and Fleetwoods a rattling or loose lumber-type noise is heard from the rear of the car especially on bumps. The noise can be isolated to the rear struts.
The cause of the noise is the interface between the upper strut mount and the body of the vehicle. The strut itself does not cause the noise.
To correct this condition use the following procedure:
1. Remove the two strut tower mounting nuts on each strut from inside the trunk.
2. Install new nuts, P/N 11515743, and torque to 50 Nm (37 lbs. ft.).
Whenever performing this procedure always replace the nuts on both the right and left rear struts.
Replacing the strut assembly is not required to correct this condition.
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
