Beginning in late February, 1993, all Cadillac models will be delivered with a bar code tag placed on the vehicle's key ring. A sample tag is shown in Figure 1. With implementation of the bar code tag system, the knock-out plugs previously supplied on ignition keys will be deleted.
In addition to bar code information, printed key-cut codes will be included on the key tag. This information will replace the key-cut information which was previously stamped on the key knock-out plug. Please note that the key-cut codes on the label apply to the ignition keys only. Knock-out plugs will continue to be provided with door keys.
At the time of delivery the bar code tag should be treated the same as knock-out plugs have been treated in the past. The ignition bar code tag and knock-out plugs from the door key should be provided to the owner at the time of delivery, and the owner should be advised to keep the tag and knock-out plugs in a safe place.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
