CONDITION
GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT CERTAIN 1993 "C" AND "H" BODY VEHICLES A COLUMN MOUNTED SHIFT LEVER MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITH A BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK (BTSI) SOLENOID THAT BECOMES STUCK IN THE ENGAGED POSITION AND DOES NOT ALLOW THE TRANSAXLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK.
TO PREVENT THIS CONDITION FROM OCCURRING, DEALERS ARE TO INSPECT THE BTSI SOLENOID FOR SUSPECT BUILD DATE CODES ON ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES, AND REPLACE THE SOLENOID IF IT HAS ONE OF THE SPECIFIC DATE CODES LISTED UNDER SERVICE PROCEDURE IN THIS BULLETIN.

ALL SUBJECT VEHICLES WHICH ARE LISTED ON THE DEALER'S CAMPAIGN PRINTOUT WILL REQUIRE CORRECTION AS OUTLINED IN THE SERVICE PROCEDURE SECTION OF THIS BULLETIN. OTHER SUSPECT VEHICLES SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR CAMPAIGN INVOLVEMENT BY UTILIZINGTHE VEHICLE INFORMATION SERVICE SYSTEM (V.I.S.S.).

DEALERS ARE TO SERVICE ALL VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN, AT NO CHARGE TO OWNERS, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE, AGE OF VEHICLE, OR OWNERSHIP.
WHENEVER A VEHICLE SUBJECT TO THIS CAMPAIGN IS TAKEN INTO YOUR NEW OR USED CAR INVENTORY, OR IF IT IS IN YOUR DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, YOU ARE TO ENSURE THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION HAS BEEN MADE BEFORE SELLING OR RELEASING THE VEHICLE.
DEALERS ARE TO CONTACT OWNERS OF VEHICLES RECENTLY SOLD FROM YOUR NEW OR USED VEHICLE INVENTORY AND ARRANGE FOR THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION TO BE PERFORMED.
SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. RAISE AND SUPPORT THE HOOD.
2. WRITE DOWN THE OWNER'S PRESET MEMORY FUNCTIONS WHICH WILL BE LOST WHEN THE BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED FOR REFERENCE LATER WHEN RESETTING THE MEMORY FUNCTIONS. IF A MEMORY RETENTION DEVICE IS PLUGGED INTO THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER SOCKET (SUCH AS "MEMOR-EZE", SNAP-ON TOOL YA960, OR KENT MOORE TOOLS KS295A OR BT 9027), THIS STEP CAN BE OMITTED. THEN, WITH THE IGNITION IN THE "OFF" POSITION, DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
IF VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH INFLATABLE RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SIR), REFER TO SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT SECTION (9J) OF THE 1993 (DIVISION) "C" AND "H" BODY SERVICE MANUAL. FURTHER, IF A MEMORY RETENTION DEVICE IS USED, DISCONNECT THE SIR INFLATOR MODULE CIRCUIT BY DISCONNECTING THE YELLOW CONNECTOR AT THE BASE OF THE STEERING COLUMN. FAILURE TO DISCONNECT THE YELLOW CONNECTOR MAY RESULT IN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT WITH PERSONAL INJURY.
3. REMOVE LEFT INSTRUMENT PANEL SOUND INSULATOR.
4. INSPECT BTSI SOLENOID DATE CODE STAMPED ON THE BOTTOM OF SOLENOID(SEE FIG. 1). IF DATE CODE IS 2286, 2287, 2288, 2289, 2290, OR 2293 GO TO TO STEP 5. IF DATE CODE IS OTHER THAN LISTED ABOVE, GO TO STEP 6.
5. REMOVE, AND REPLACE THE BTSI SOLONOID AS PER PAGES 3F5A-21 THROUGH PAGE 3F5A-23 OF THE 1993 (DIVISION) "C" AND "H" BODY SERVICE MANUAL.
6. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. IF A MEMORY RETENTION DEVICE WAS NOT USED, PLEASE RESET (TO THE EXTENT POSSIBLE) ALL DEVICES THAT LOST THEIR MEMORY AFTER THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED. IF VEHICLE HAS SIR, RE-ENABLE THE SYSTEM.
7. INSTALLL LEFT INSTRUNENT PANEL SOUND INSULATOR
8. INSTALL A CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL.

EACH LABEL PROVIDES SPACE TO PRINT THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER, AND THE FIVE (5) DIGIT DEALER CODE OF THE DEALER PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN. INSERT THIS INFORMATION WITH A TYPEWRITER OR BALL- POINT PEN. WHEN INSTALLING LABEL, CLEAN AND DRY THE SURFACE OF THE RADIATOR SUPPORT TIE BAR AND APPLY THE CAMPAIGN LABEL WHERE IT IS READILY VISIBLE.
