The liftgate contains 2 liftgate ajar switches. Both are in the latches on each side of the liftgate. The liftglass has one liftglass ajar switch in the latch. Both the liftgate and liftglass ajar switches report ajar status to the same pin on the BCM. When any of the ajar switches are closed, liftgate or liftglass open, a switched ground signal will be sent to the body control module (BCM). The BCM cannot determine what is ajar, liftgate or liftglass, and will send a class 2 message to the instrument cluster to display the REAR ACCESS OPEN message.
It is possible for the liftgate to be partially latched and will even lock but still be ajar and cause the REAR ACCESS OPEN message to display on the DIC.
