Subject:DVD Screen Displays Input Password Or Parental Violation

Models:2007 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
with RPO YQ3 Audio System

This PI was superseded to update to include the repair procedure for the radio. Please discard PIT4078A

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may state the DVD player will not play a movie and a message "Input Password" or "Parental Violation" is displayed on the second row video screen. 2007 Escalades with the YQ3 audio system should not have this option for parental controls. A software anomaly in the radio may cause this condition. This option was only available on vehicles equipped with the SuperNav Radio (RPO U3R)

Recommendation/Instructions:

Note: If you experience this concern and the vehicle is equipped with a SuperNav Radio (RPO U3R), please see PIT4062 for additional information

If you experience this issue and the vehicle is equipped with a YQ3 audio system, DO NOT REPLACE THE RADIO for this concern.

Please follow the repair procedure below:

Important: New software can be obtained from the Warranty Parts Center. Service CDs are in limited supply. Dealers should retain the service CDs for future use.

The following ITEMS are needed to complete the Update: Update Software CD and a Tech 2® (with CANdi module).

Note: Please make sure the Tech 2 is updated to the latest software release.

  1. Using the Tech 2, record the radio part number that is located under module information in the radio section.
  2. Note: This software can only be used for updating the 2007 Model Year Cadillac Escalade radio P/Ns 15893664 and 15934176. Do not use these CDs to update any other radios. The use of latex gloves is recommended to avoid fingerprints on the products and/or discs. If the vehicle is turned off during updating, "Software Updating" process may not work again and a new radio will be required.

  3. Insert the DVD software update disc into the DVD drive of the radio. This will be the top slot of the radio.
  4. The software will start updating and then will eject the disc, Re-install the software disc a second time and the radio will complete the second portion of the update.
  5. The Radio will eject the disc a second time; the CD software update is complete.
  6. If the vehicle is equipped with radio part number: 15934176, no further action is required.
  7. If the vehicle is equipped with radio part number: 15893664, the radio will have to be SPS programmed with the latest radio software to complete the repair.

If you have a customer with this concern, you will need to E-mail or fax in a Warranty Parts Center (WPC) request. The WPC part number is #360 and the WPC will ship the DVD software update disc per request.
