Power Seat Inoperative in One Direction w/o A45

Did you perform the entire Power Seats System Check?

  1. Disconnect the suspect seat switch connector.
  2. Operate the seat switch in the inoperative position.
  3. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) between the seat switch cavity H (RED) and the appropriate seat switch cavity from the following list:
  4. • Rear vertical up: cavity F (YEL) (LH) or E (YEL) (RH)
    • Rear vertical down: cavity E (LT BLU) (LH) or F (LT BLU) (RH)
    • Front vertical up: cavity B (DK GRN) (LH) or A (DK GRN) (RH)
    • Front vertical down: cavity A (BK BLU) (LH) or B (DK BLU) (RH)
    • Entire seat forward: cavity D (TAN)
    • Entire seat back: cavity C (LT GRN)
    • Recline forward: cavity M (LT GRN) (LH) or L (DK GRN) (RH)
    • Recline back: cavity K (LT BLU) (LH) or J (DK BLU) (RH)

Is the resistance within the specified range?

0-2 ohms

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the suspect seat motor.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between battery positive voltage (B+) and one of the seat motor cavities.
  3. Connect a fused jumper between the other seat motor cavity and ground.

Does the motor run?

Replace the LH seat switch. Refer to Power Seat Switch Replacement .

Is the seat switch replacement complete?

Repair the open or short to ground between the appropriate motor and the seat switch. Refer to the following list:

    • Rear vertical up: CKT 282 (YEL) (LH) or CKT 288 (YEL) (RH)
    • Rear vertical down: CKT 283 (LT BLU) (LH) or CKT 289 (LT BLU) (RH)
    • Front vertical up: CKT 286 (DK GRN) (LH) or CKT 297 (DK GRN) (RH)
    • Front vertical down: CKT 287 (BK BLU) (LH) or CKT 298 (DK BLU) (RH)
    • Entire seat forward: CKT 285 (TAN) (LH) or CKT 296 (TAN) (RH)
    • Entire seat back: CKT 284 (LT GRN) (LH) or CKT 290 (LT GRN) (RH)
    • Recline forward: CKT 276 (LT GRN) (LH) or CKT 76 (DK GRN) (RH)
    • Recline back: CKT 277 (LT BLU) (LH) or CKT 77 (DK BLU) (RH)

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  3. Attempt to communicate with the memory seat module (MSM).

Can you communicate with the MSM?

--

  1. Using the scan tool, observe the inoperative LH seat switch position in the MSM data list
  2. Operate the LH seat switch in the inoperative position.

Does the LH seat switch parameter change state?

--

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect the LH seat switch connector C1.
  2. Operate the LH seat switch in the inoperative position.
  3. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) between the LH seat switch connector cavity H (BLK) and the appropriate LH seat switch connector cavity:
  4. • Rear vertical up: cavity F (YEL)
    • Rear vertical down: cavity E (LT BLU)
    • Front vertical up: cavity B (DK GRN)
    • Front vertical down: cavity A (BK BLU)
    • Entire seat forward: cavity D (TAN)
    • Entire seat back: cavity C (LT GRN)
    • Recline forward: cavity M (GRY/BLK)
    • Recline back: cavity K (DK GRN/WHT)

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

5 ohms

Repair the open in the appropriate wiring:

    • Rear vertical up: CKT 1519 (YEL)
    • Rear vertical down: CKT 1521 (LT BLU)
    • Front vertical up: CKT 1518 (DK GRN)
    • Front vertical down: CKT 1520 (DK BLU)
    • Entire seat forward: CKT 1522 (TAN)
    • Entire seat back: CKT 1523 (LT GRN)
    • Recline forward: CKT 1269 (GRY/BLK)
    • Recline back: CKT 1270 (DK GRN/WHT)

Is the repair complete?

Replace the LH seat switch. Refer to Power Seat Switch Replacement .

Is the seat switch replacement complete?

Go to Step 11

  1. Inspect for proper power and ground to the MSM.
  2. Inspect for proper terminal contact at the MSM connectors. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
  3. If all items are OK, replace the MSM. Refer to Memory Seat Control Module Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the suspect seat motor connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between battery positive voltage (B+) and one of the seat motor cavities.
  3. Connect a fused jumper between the other seat motor cavity and ground.

Does the motor run?

Repair the open or short to ground in the appropriate wiring:

    • Rear vertical: CKT 282 (YEL) or CKT 283 (LT BLU)
    • Front vertical: CKT 286 (DK GRN) or CKT 287 (DK BLU)
    • Horizontal: CKT 284 (LT GRN) or CKT 285 (TAN)
    • Recline: CKT 276 (LT GRN) or CKT 277 (LT BLU)
