Circuit Description

DTC B1552 indicates that the keep alive memory (KAM) in the instrument cluster has been reset. The KAM in the instrument cluster normally resets whenever power or ground is removed from the instrument cluster. DTC B1552 sets when the battery is disconnected, for example.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The DTC sets when power or ground is disconnected from the instrument cluster.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

When the DTC sets, the instrument cluster resets all displays to their default values.

Diagnostic Aids

If DTC B1552 sets without a battery disconnect:

  1. Check for PZM DTC's B1972 or B1973, if current perform the appropriate DTC diagnosis. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List/Type in Body control System.
  2. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Use the scan tool in order to check for body control module (PZM) DTCs.

Does the scan tool indicate that DTC B1972 or B1973 are current?

Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List/Type in Body Control System

Go to Step 3

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTC.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.

Does the scan tool indicate that DTC B1552 is current?

Go to Step 4

System OK

Test the voltage circuits at terminals A1 and B1 for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
