The seat belt retractor system automatically retracts the driver's and passenger's seat belts. The left seat belt retracts when the following conditions are met:
• | The car is stopped. |
• | The driver's seat belt is unbuckled. |
• | The left door is opened. |
The passenger's seat belt retracts in the same manner when the right door is opened.
Battery positive voltage (B+) is applied to each seat belt retractor actuator at all times through the rear compartment fuse block BATT Fuse via CKT 1840 (ORN). When a door is opened, the respective front door lock actuator closes. This action applies ground to the appropriate seat belt retractor actuator . When a seat belt retractor actuator receives power and ground, the seat belt retractor retracts the seat belt.
The occupant of the front seats can adjust the amount of slack in their shoulder belt. To set the comfort level for the shoulder belt, perform the following steps:
The FASTEN SEAT BELTS lamp/indicator is located in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) communicates with the IPC using the Class 2 serial data line. The SDM commands the IPC to turn the FASTEN SEAT BELTS indicator ON or OFF through serial data communication. The SDM receives the buckle/unbuckle input as a ground signal from the LH front seat belt switch.
When the seat belt is buckled and the ignition is turned to the ON position, the LH seat belt switch opens. The SDM then performs a bulb check. The FASTEN SEAT BELTS indicator illuminates for 5 seconds.
When the seat belt is unbuckled and the ignition is turned to the ON position, the LH front seat belt switch closes. The seat belt switch applies a ground to the input of the SDM. The SDM commands the FASTEN SEAT BELTS indicator to illuminate for 70 seconds.
