Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraints.



2. Tilt the steering column all the way down.
3. Grip the lever firmly and unscrew (turning counterclockwise), removing it from the column.

1. Add light duty threadlocking compound to the tilt lever threads.
2. Install the lever to the column and twist clockwise to engage threads a minimum of four turns. Be sure that the bend in the lever is positioned froward.
3. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraints.
