Removal Procedure

Notice: If the power steering system has been serviced, an accurate fluid level reading cannot be obtained unless air is bled from the steering system. The air in the fluid may cause pump cavitation noise and may cause pump damage over a period of time.

  1. Disconnect the steering gear (1) to cooler hose.
  2. Disconnect the cooler to reservoir hose (2) at the cooler.
  3. Remove the bolts securing the cooler to the crossmember.
  4. Remove the cooler from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the cooler to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the two mounting fasteners to the crossmember.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6N·m(53 lb in).

  5. Connect the cooler hoses (1,2) to the cooler.
  6. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
