Did you perform A Diagnostic System Check - Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Move the shift lever to the PARK position.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the IMS parameter in the data display list of the powertrain control module (PCM).

Does the scan tool display PARK position for the IMS parameter?

With a scan tool observe the PARK relay status in the body control module (PZM) data display list.

Does the scan tool display an ON status for the PARK relay?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the PARK relay.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the PARK relay coil side feed circuit and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the PARK relay switch side feed circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the PARK relay coil side feed circuit and the PARK relay control circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool command the PARK relay ON and OFF.

Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a 10 amp fused jumper between the PARK relay switch side feed circuit and the PARK relay signal circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Apply the parking brake and block the wheels.
  5. Attempt to move the shift lever out of the PARK position.

Does the shift lever move out of the PARK position?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the 10 amp fused jumper.
  3. Install the PARK relay.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the park relay signal circuit at the automatic transmission shift lock control switch and a good ground.
  5. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?
