Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Loosen park brake cable adjuster to relieve tension on park brake
cables.
- Lower vehicle.
- Remove I/P sound insulator panel to access lever assembly. Refer
to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Pull the carpet back to expose park brake cable.
- Disconnect the front park
brake cable from lever assembly.
- Disconnect the electrical
connector (1) from the park brake switch.
Disconnect the vacuum line (2) from the brake release solenoid.
- Remove the park brake
lever assembly attaching nuts (1).
Remove the park brake lever assembly from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install park brake lever
assembly to the mounting studs.
- Install lever attaching nuts (1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the park brake lever nuts to 24 N·m (18 lb
ft).
- Connect the electrical
connector (1) to the park brake switch.
Connect the vacuum line (2) to the park brake release solenoid.
- Connect the front park
brake cable to the lever assembly.
- Reposition carpet.
- Install the I/P sound insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in Instrument Panel,
Gauges, and Console.
- Raise and suitably support to vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Adjust the park brake.
- Lower the vehicle.
