Removal Procedure

  1. Remove two-thirds of brake fluid from master cylinder.
  2. Raise the vehicle and suitably support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  4. Object Number: 617277 Size: SH

Important: Do not use a screwdriver or pry bar to compress the caliper piston into the caliper. Any damage to the piston boot could cause corrosive elements to enter the piston sealing area and lead to the piston seizing in the caliper bore.

Important: Do not exceed more than 1 mm of piston travel. Damage to the internal adjusting mechanism may result.

  5. Using a large C-clamp compress the caliper (1) piston into the caliper bore to gain enough clearance to allow the caliper to pivot off the caliper bracket. Compress the piston until resistance is felt, but no more than 1 mm of piston travel.

  6. Object Number: 106206 Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the park brake cable (1) form the cable bracket.
  8. Remove the cable from the cable lever.
  9. Remove the bolt attaching the inlet fitting to the caliper, and plug the opening in the caliper and pipe to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  10. Object Number: 105290 Size: SH
  11. Remove the bottom caliper slide pin.

  12. Object Number: 105773 Size: SH

Important: Inspect the caliper bolt, suspension boots and piston seal for cuts, tears, or deterioration. If damaged refer to Brake Caliper Overhaul .

  13. Pivot the caliper body (6) upward.
  14. Slide the caliper off of the top caliper slider.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 105774 Size: SH
  1. Using a spanner type wrench turn the piston clockwise to retract the caliper piston into the caliper bore.

  2. Object Number: 105773 Size: SH
  3. Install the caliper onto the top caliper slide pin.
  4. Important: Caliper piston must be aligned with the locating pin on the brake pads.

  5. Pivot the caliper (6) down over the brake pads and onto the anchor bracket.

  6. Object Number: 105290 Size: SH
  7. Insert the lower caliper slide pin.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the caliper slide pin to 27 N·m(20 lb ft).

  9. Install the brake hose inlet fitting.
  10. Tighten
Tighten the brake hose inlet fitting to 45N·m(33 lb ft).

    Object Number: 106206 Size: SH
  11. Install the parking brake cable onto the cable bracket (1) and lever.
  12. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
  13. Start the vehicle and apply the brakes three times to seat the caliper piston on the brake pads.
  14. Recheck the brake fluid. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling in Hydraulic Brakes.
