Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-4.6L..
  3. Remove the radiator support access panel. Refer to Radiator Support Sight Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  4. Remove the front engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  5. Remove the upper front mounting bolt from the generator.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Loosen the rear generator bracket from the engine.
  9. Remove the top bolt.
  10. Remove the front lower mounting bolt.
  11. Remove the lower rear mounting bolt.
  12. Remove the upper rear mounting bolt.
  13. Remove the duct from the back of the generator.
  14. Disconnect the following electrical connections from the generator:
  15. • Regulator
    • Battery output
    • Heated windshield (if equipped).
  16. Remove the front generator A/C bracket.
  17. Rotate the generator and remove it from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the generator to the vehicle.
  2. Install the front generator A/C bracket.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Connect the following electrical connections to the generator:
  5. • Regulator
    • Battery output

    Tighten
    Tighten the battery output cable to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

    • Heated windshield (if equipped).
  6. Install the duct to the back of the generator. Align the duct to the generator black duct.
  7. Install the upper rear mounting bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the upper rear mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  9. Install the lower rear mounting bolt.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the lower rear mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  11. Install the front mounting bolt.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the front mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  13. Install the rear generator bracket bolt to the engine.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Install the front engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  17. Install the radiator support access panel. Refer to Radiator Support Sight Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  18. Install the upper front mounting bolt.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the upper front bolt to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  20. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-4.6L.
  21. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
