Removal Procedure
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical-4.6 L.

    3. Object Number: 104910 Size: MH
  3. Disconnect the wire from the "S" terminal on the starter.
  4. Disconnect the battery cable from the starter.

    5. Object Number: 54606 Size: SH
  5. Remove the two starter mounting bolts.
  6. Remove the starter.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 104910 Size: MH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Connect the wire to the "S" terminal on the starter.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  2. Connect the battery cable lead.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  3. Install the starter motor.
  4. Install the starter motor mounting bolts.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical-4.6 L.
  6. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
