Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 69919  Size: SH
  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.6L.
  3. Disconnect the radiator hose.

  4. Object Number: 69948  Size: SH
  5. Remove the thermostat housing.

  6. Object Number: 69947  Size: SH
  7. Remove the thermostat.
  8. Clean all sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 69947  Size: SH
  1. Install the thermostat.
  2. Install the thermostat housing using a new gasket.

  3. Object Number: 69948  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the thermostat housing bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Connect the radiator hose.
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.6L.
  8. Refill the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  9. Start the engine.
  10. Check for leaks.
