Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 36660-A Torque/Angle Meter
    • J 41816 Crankshaft Balancer Remover
    • J 41998-A Crankshaft Balancer Installer
    • J 44214 Flywheel Holder
  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the wheelhouse extension from the wheelhouse. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement in Body Front End.

  5. Object Number: 333127  Size: SH
  6. Remove the brace between the engine oil pan and the transmission case.
  7. Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T80-E.

  8. Object Number: 650536  Size: SH
  9. Install the J 44214  (1).
  10. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.
  11. Support the engine assembly with a suitable jack.
  12. Remove the right transaxle mount. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  13. Lower the engine assembly to obtain clearance for the J 41816 below the body rail.

  14. Object Number: 52031  Size: SH
  15. Place the remover pilot into the end of the crankshaft.
  16. Remove the crankshaft balancer using the J 41816 .
  17. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the crankshaft balancer to the engine. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Installation .
  2. Raise the engine assembly into position.
  3. Install the right transaxle mount. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  4. Remove the engine support jack.
  5. Remove the J 44214 .
  6. Install the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T80-E.

  7. Object Number: 333127  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the oil pan to transmission brace.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  10. Install the wheelhouse extension in the wheelhouse. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement in Body Front End.
  11. Install the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
