Tools Required

Notice: Do Not attempt to repair the EVAP pipes or the connecting hoses. Replace the damaged EVAP pipes or the connecting hoses are damaged. If the nylon EVAP pipe becomes kinked and cannot be straightened, it must be replaced.

1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Remove retaining hardware for the section to be replaced.
4. Inspect the location of the attaching hardware for installation.
5. Remove the fuel pipe retainer(s).
6. Disconnect the quick connect fittings at the EVAP pipe (1), fuel feed pipe (3), and fuel return (2). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
7. Install the protective caps on the pipes.



8. Remove the quick connect fitting at the fuel filter.
9. Remove the hardware retaining section of the pipe to be replaced.
10. Note the location of the attaching hardware for installation.
11. Remove the section of pipe to be replaced.
12. Wipe off the male pipe end using a clean shop towel.
13. Inspect quick-connect fittings for dirt and burrs.

Notice: Use an emery cloth in order to remove rust or burrs from the fuel pipe. Use a radial motion with the fuel pipe end in order to prevent damage to the O-ring sealing surface.

14. Clean or replace components or assemblies as required.

Caution: In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury observe the following items:

1. Position the new fuel pipe(s) in the original location.
2. Remove the protective cap(s) from fuel pipe(s).



3. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male connector pipe end.



4. Connect the quick-connect fitting at fuel filter.
5. Push connector together to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap into place.



6. Pull on both ends of connection to make sure connection is secure once installed.
7. Install retaining hardware.
8. Install the fuel pipe retainers.
9. Lower the vehicle.



10. Install the for engine compartment EVAP pipe (1), fuel return (2), and the fuel feed pipe (3). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .



11. Tighten the fuel filler cap.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
13. Inspect for leaks.

13.1.

Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.

Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.

13.3.

Turn ON the ignition.

13.4.

Check for fuel leaks.




14. Install the fuel injector sight shield (1) to the engine.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

15. Install the fuel injector sight shield nuts (2).

Tighten
Tighten the nuts 3 N·m (27 lb in).
