The engine oil level (EOL) switch is a simple float-type switch. The switch grounds when the oil level is at the proper level. The PCM applies an ignition voltage to the switch input circuit through a pull-up resistor. With the ignition turned ON, and the engine OFF, the PCM should detect low voltage. With the engine running, the PCM should detect a transition from low voltage to high voltage. If the PCM detects a low signal voltage (full oil level), and/or the PCM does not detect a switch transition with the engine running, DTC P1617 will set.
• | No TP sensor, or VSS DTCs are set. |
• | Throttle position is greater than 5 percent |
• | Vehicle speed is greater than 5 km/h (3 mph). |
• | Engine speed is greater than 2000 RPM. |
• | Vehicle is in steady state cruise (no lateral acceleration). |
The PCM detects a low signal voltage, and/or no transition of the switch for at least 8 seconds.
• | The PCM will not illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). |
• | The PCM will store the conditions present when the DTC set as Failure Records data only. |
• | The history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles have occurred without a malfunction. |
• | The DTC can be cleared by using the scan tool Clear DTC Information function. |
