The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the system voltage to make sure that the voltage stays within the proper range. Damage to components, and inaccurate input can occur with incorrect system voltage. If the PCM detects an excessively low system voltage, DTC P0562 will set.
Engine speed above 1500 RPM.
The PCM detects a system voltage below 10 volts for 5 seconds.
• | The PCM will command a message to be displayed. |
• | The PCM will not illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). |
• | The PCM will store conditions which were present when the DTC set as Fail Records data only. |
• | The PCM will command the message OFF after one trip in which the diagnostic test has been run and passed. |
• | The history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles have occurred without a malfunction. |
• | The DTC can be cleared by using the scan tool Clear DTC Information function. |
If the condition is intermittent, refer to Intermittent Conditions in Symptoms.
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
If ignition voltage and IPC battery voltage are within 0.5 volt of each other, there may be a system voltage condition. If they are not within 0.5 volt of each other, find out why the PCM is different.
Checking if PCM ignition voltage is actually displaying system voltage.
Checking for an open or high resistance in the ignition feed circuit.
Step | Action | Value(s) | Yes | No |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Did you perform the Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check? | -- | Go to Step 2 | |
Important: If DTCs P0621 or P0622 are also set, diagnose those DTCs first. Refer to DTC P0621 Generator L-Terminal Circuit or DTC P0622 Generator F-Terminal Circuit .
Are PCM and IPC voltage readings different by more than the value specified? | 1.0 volts | Go to Step 3 | Go to Diagnostic System Check - Engine Electrical in Engine Electrical | |
With the DMM measure voltage to ground on the PCM IGN fuse (installed). Are the Ignition 1 and DMM voltage readings different by more than the value specified? | 1.0 volts | Go to Step 4 | Go to Diagnostic System Check - Engine Electrical in Engine Electrical | |
Did you find and correct the condition? | -- | Go to Step 5 | ||

Important: The replacement PCM must be programmed. Replace the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement/Programming . Is the action complete? | -- | -- | |
7 |
Does the scan tool indicate that DTC P0562 passed? | -- | System OK |
