Removal Procedure

  1. Remove all related panels and components including the quarter panel.
  2. Visually inspect and restore as much of the damage as possible.
  3. Remove the following as necessary:
  4. • Sealers
    • Sound deadeners
    • Anti-corrosion materials

  5. Apply a strip of 25 mm (1 in) masking tape along the horizontal surface of the bend in the wheelhouse.
  6. Cut along the outboard side of the masking tape (1) to create a 25 mm (1 in) tab.
  7. Remove the damaged section of the wheelhouse.

Installation Procedure

  1. Cut the wheelhouse service part along the corner of the bend (1).
  2. Apply a strip of making tape and cut along the inboard edge.
  3. Remove and discard the unused section of the wheelhouse.
  4. Drill 8 mm (5/16 in) plug weld holes on the service part every 40 mm (1 1/2 in) along the cut.

  6. Prepare mating surfaces and position the service part.
  7. Check for proper fit.
  8. Plug weld accordingly (1). Take care not to warp or distort the metal.
  9. Clean and prepare welded surfaces.
  10. Prime with two-part catalyzed primer.
  11. Important: Prior to refinishing, refer to GM 4901MD-99 Refinish Manual for recommended products. Do not combine paint systems. Refer to paint manufacturer's recommendations.

  12. Apply sealers and anti-corrosion materials as necessary.
  13. Install all related panels and components.
