Removal Procedure

    Important: The left and right front wheelhousings are available as complete assemblies. In addition, the front portion of the aprons and the battery tray can be ordered and serviced separately.

  1. Remove all related panels and components.
  2. Visually inspect and restore as much of the damage as possible to factory specifications.
  3. Remove the following as necessary:
  4. • Sealers
    • Sound deadeners
    • Anti-corrosion materials
  5. Locate, mark, and drill out all factory welds. Note the number of welds for installation of the service assembly.
  6. Remove the damaged front wheelhouse assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Foam sound deadeners must be removed from areas within 152.4 mm (6 in) of where flame is to be used for body repairs. When reinstalling foam sound deadeners, avoid inhaling fumes as bodily injury may result.

    Important: If damage allows, it is recommended that the strut tower rear extension (1) be left intact and attached to the cowl to simplify wheelhouse replacement. Drill out the appropriate welds and remove the extension from the service part.

  1. Prepare mating surface.
  2. Check for proper fit of the wheelhouse service assembly.
  3. Drill 8 mm (5/16 in) plug weld holes as necessary on the service part as noted from the original assembly.
  4. Position the service assembly.
  5. Check fit of body dimensions at strut tower locations (2). Use three dimensional measuring equipment.
  6. Clean and prepare welded surfaces.
  7. Prime with two-part catalyzed primer.
  8. Important: Prior to refinishing, refer to GM 4901MD-99 Refinish Manual for recommended products. Do not combine paint systems. Refer to paint manufacturer's recommendations.

  9. Apply sealers and anti-corrosion materials as necessary.
  10. Install all related panels and components.
