Outer Belt Sealing Strip Replacement DeVille
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
Caution: In order to prevent SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs, do not strike the door or the door pillar in the area of the side impact sensor (SIS). Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key when performing service in the area of the SIS.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
- The outer belt sealing strip/reveal moldings are retained in the
same manner for the front and rear door. The front and rear door both have
the following components:
• | Single stage clips retain the moldings to the door belt |
• | Locator pins ensure the proper positioning |
The only difference between the front door and the rear door is the
starting point for removal. Refer to the following list:
• | The starting point for the front door is at the rear. |
• | The starting point for the rear door is at the front. |
Removal Procedure
- Lower the window to the full down position.
- Using a hooked tool, release the clip
on the backside of the molding (2).
• | For the front door, start at the rear of the door. |
• | For the rear door, start at the front of the door. |
- Pull the molding (2) upward in order to release the retaining
clip.
- On the front doors only, slide the molding (2) rearward
in order to separate the molding from the outer reveal molding.
- Remove the molding (2) from the door.
Installation Procedure
Important: The outer belt sealing strip clip (2) must be fully engaged to
the door flange (1) along the entire length in order to obtain the
maximum retention to the door.
- Ensure the outer belt sealing strip clip (2) is engaged.
- Install the molding (2).
• | For the front door, start the installation at the molding to the
outer reveal molding. |
• | For the rear door, start the installation at the locator pin (3)
to the door flange. |
- On the front door only, position the locator pin (3) at
the rear of the molding to the door.
- Firmly press the remaining outer belt
molding onto the door flange in order to secure the outer belt sealing strip
clip.
Important: Cycle the door glass to the full open position and return the glass
to the full closed to ensure the outer belt sealing strip clip is secured.
Cycle the door glass to the full open position. Reach through the window
opening and firmly grasp the edges of the outer belt sealing strip. Firmly
lift in an upward motion to ensure the sealing strip clip is securely
retained to the entire length of the inner door flange.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to

Removal Procedure
- Remove the trim panel. Refer to
Door Trim Panel Replacement
- Remove the inner belt sealing strip. Refer to
Inner Belt Sealing Strip Replacement
- It may be necessary to remove the door
glass to access the outer belt sealing strip fastener (1). Refer to
Door Window Replacement
Remove the fastener (1).
- Remove the outer sealing strip (2).
Installation Procedure
Important: The outer belt sealing strip clip (4) must be fully engaged to
the door flange (5) along the entire length in order to obtain the
maximum retention to the door.
- Ensure the outer belt sealing strip clip (4) is engaged.
- Install the outer sealing strip (2) to the door.
- Install the fastener (1).
- Reinstall the door glass if necessary. Refer to

- Install the inner belt sealing strip. Refer to

- Install the trim panel. Refer to
