Removal Procedure

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

   • Air bag deployment
   • Personal injury
   • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
   • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
   • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

Caution: In order to prevent SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs, do not strike the door or the door pillar in the area of the side impact sensor (SIS). Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key when performing service in the area of the SIS.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
  2. Remove the trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
    3. •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
  3. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .

    4. Caution: Eye protection must be worn when drilling rivets to reduce the chance of personal injury.

  4. Perform the following steps in order to remove the rivets (2):
    5. 4.1. Center punch a depression in the head of the rivet (2).
    4.2. Drill out the rivet using a 4.8 mm (0.188 in) drill bit.
  5. Remove the inside remote handle (1). Disengage the tabs on the handle assembly from the slots in the module assembly.
  6. Remove the lock rods from the handle (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the lock rods to the handle (1).
  2. Install the inside remote handle (1) to the module assembly. Place the tabs on the handle assembly into the slots in the module.
  3. Install the rivets (2) using 4.8 mm (0.188 in) peel type rivets.
  4. Install the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  5. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
  6. Install the trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
    7. •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the trim panel. Refer to Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .

    3. Caution: Eye protection must be worn when drilling rivets to reduce the chance of personal injury.

  3. Perform the following steps in order to remove the rivets (2) :
    4. 3.1. Center punch a depression in the head of the rivet (2).
    3.2. Drill out the rivet using a 4.8 mm (0.188 in) drill bit.
  4. Remove the inside remote handle (1) by disengaging the tabs on the handle assembly from the slots in the module assembly.
  5. Carefully guide the electrical connector to the power door lock switch out of the door handle bracket.
  6. Remove the lock rods from the handle (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the lock rods to the handle (1).
  2. Install the inside remote handle (1) to the module assembly by placing the tabs on the handle assembly into the slots in the module.
  3. Install the rivets (2) using 4.8 mm (0.188 in) peel type rivets.
  4. Reposition the electrical connector through the door handle bracket.
  5. Install the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  6. Install the trim panel. Refer to Door Trim Panel Replacement .
