GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

Important:

   • If an odometer malfunction occurs or if the instrument panel cluster (IPC) must be replaced, contact an authorized service center. When replacing a speedometer/odometer assembly, federal law requires that the odometer reading of the replacement unit be set to register the same mileage as the prior odometer. If the same mileage cannot be set, the law requires that the replacement odometer be set to zero and a label be installed on the driver's door frame indicating the previous odometer reading and the date of the replacement.
   • The season odometer displays the total accumulated miles/kilometers of the vehicle. This actual odometer value is stored in the IPC EEPROM microprocessor.
   • The trip odometer displays the accumulated miles/kilometers to the tenth of a mile/kilometer since the last reset. Reset the trip odometer by holding the Trip Set button for more than 1 second. The trip odometer has an automatic reset feature. This feature resets the trip odometer to 0 km/mi when the trip odometer displays a specific value. The actual automatic reset values are defined by the following terms:
      - Vehicles manufactured for USA delivery are reset to 0 km/mi when the trip odometer reaches 1609 km (999.9 mi).
      - Vehicles manufactured for Canadian and export delivery are reset to 0 km/mi when the trip odometer reaches 1999.9 km (1242.6 mi).

The IPC displays both the season and trip odometer information. The odometer displays are based on the vehicle speed input received from the PCM.
