When the instrument cluster (IPC) determines that the park lamps have been turned ON by the headlamp switch, the IPC sends a Class 2 message requesting that the radio (IRC) turn ON the fast chime under the following conditions:
• | The ignition key is not in the steering column lock cylinder. |
• | The left front door is open. |
When the IPC detects that the park lamps have been turned OFF, the IPC sends a Class 2 message requesting that the IRC turn OFF the fast chime under the following conditions:
• | The ignition key is in the steering column lock cylinder. |
• | The left front door is closed. |
When the ignition switch in the ACCY or the LOCK position, the IP connector C2 terminal B7, CKT 80 (LT GRN), is grounded by the key-in ignition switch.
When the IPC detects this ground, the IPC receives a Class 2 serial data line message if the left front door is open. The IPC will send a Class 2 serial data line message requesting that the IRC turn ON the medium chime.
When the ground is removed from the IPC connector C2 terminal B7, the IPC receives a Class 2 serial data line message if the left front door is closed. The IPC then sends a Class 2 serial data line message requesting that the IRC turn OFF the medium chime.
The powertrain control module (PCM) interprets the engine coolant temperature through the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT). When the PCM detects that the engine coolant temperature is above approximately 131°C (270°F), the PCM sends a Class 2 serial data line message.
The IPC receives this message and displays the STOP ENGINE-ENGINE OVERHEATED message on the driver message center. The IPC sends a Class 2 serial data line message requesting that the IRC turn ON the medium chime.
With the engine running the PCM connector C2 terminal 57 is grounded by the engine oil pressure switch.
If the engine oil pressure drops below approximately 20.5 kPa (3 psi), the engine oil pressure switch opens. The PCM detects this voltage. If the engine is running, the PCM sends a Class 2 serial data line message.
The IPC receives this message and illuminates the STOP ENGINE-LOW OIL PRESSURE message. A Class 2 message is sent requesting that the IRC turn ON the medium chime.
When the left front seat belt is unbuckled, the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) terminal 1 CKT 238 (BLK/WHT) is grounded by the left front seat belt switch. The SDM detects this input and sends a Class 2 serial data line message. The PZM receives this message. A Class 2 serial data line message is sent requesting that the IPC illuminate the fasten safety belt indicator. The PZM also sends a Class 2 message requesting that the IRC turn ON the slow chime.
