Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant
Recovery, Recycling and Recharging (ACR4) System
- Recover the refrigerant
from the system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the Battery.
- Raise and support vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the front air deflector. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front
End.
- Remove the right front tire. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Suspension
.
- Remove the compressor
splash shield (2) and the retainers (1).
- Remove the right wheelhouse extension. Refer to
Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Disconnect the brake line retaining clip from frame.
- Disconnect the suction hose fitting from the compressor.
- Disconnect the discharge
hose fitting from the compressor.
- Disconnect the compressor
electrical connector.
- Remove the compressor
mounting bolts.
- Remove the A/C Compressor mounting stud.
- Rotate the compressor, so that the compressor may exit through
the wheelhouse extension opening.
- Remove the compressor.
Installation Procedure
Tools Required

Halogen Leak Tester
- Install the compressor
through the wheelhouse extension.
- Install mounting stud.
- Install the remaining mounting fasteners.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the compressor mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Connect the compressor
electrical connector.
- Connect the discharge
hose fitting to compressor.
Tighten
Tighten the discharge hose fitting to the compressor to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Connect the suction hose
fitting to the compressor
Tighten
Tighten the suction hose fitting to the compressor to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Connect the brake line retaining clip to the frame.
- Install the compressor
splash shield (2) and the retainers (1).
- Install right front tire. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
- Lower the vehicle.
- Recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Leak test the A/C system. Refer to
Leak Testing
- Install the wheelhouse extension. Refer to
Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement
in Body
Front End.
- Install the front air deflector. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front
End.
