Dimmer Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle Column Shift

Assembly Procedure

Tools Required

J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

  1. The column must be in the 12 o'clock position.
  2. Important: To align the steering shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position. Turn the key to the off/lock position. Pull the key out and turn the steering shaft untill you hear a click.

  3. Install the dimmer switch mounting stud (5).
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  5. Install the dimmer switch assembly (3).
  6. Install the torx washer head screw (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  8. Install the dimmer switch rod (2).
  9. Install the hexagon nut (4).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  11. Reconnect the dimmer switch connector onto the dimmer switch assembly (3).

  12. Object Number: 343711  Size: SH
  13. Put the wire harness assembly into the wire harness strap (1).
  14. Important: Turn the key to the on position to unlock the steering shaft.

  15. Remove the column from the J 41352 .

Assembly Procedure


    Object Number: 378830  Size: SH
  1. Install the dimmer switch assembly (2) onto the ignition switch assembly (1).
  2. Install the TORX® washer head screw (3).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  4. Install the dimmer switch rod (5).
  5. Install the hexagon nut (4).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  7. Reconnect the dimmer switch connector onto the dimmer switch assembly (2).

  8. Object Number: 343711  Size: SH
  9. Put the wire harness assembly into the wire harness strap (1).
  10. Remove the column from the J 41352 .
