Caution: To avoid serious personal injury, do not stand over tire when inflating. The bead may break when the bead snaps over the safety hump. Do not exceed 275 kPa (40 psi) pressure when inflating any tire if beads are not seated. If 275 kPa (40 psi) pressure will not seat the beads, deflate, relubricate the beads and reinflate. Overinflation may cause the bead to break and cause serious personal injury.

Notice: It is important to note that damage to either the tire mounting surface or the wheel mounting holes can result from the use of improper wheel attachment or tire mounting techniques. It takes 70 seconds for all the air to completely exhaust from a large tire. Failure to follow proper procedures could cause the tire changer to put enough force on the tire to bend the wheel at the mounting surface. Such damage may result in vibration and/or shimmy and under severe usage lead to cracking.

Use a tire changing machine in order to mount or dismount the tires. Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Do not use hand tools or tire irons in order to change the tires. Hand tools may damage the tire bead or the wheel rim. In order to determine if a wheel is bent, perform the following procedure:

    Object Number: 153544 Size: SH
  1. Place a straight edge, approximately 203-228 mm (8-9 in) long, on the inboard mounting surface of the wheel. Try to rock the straight edge up and down.
  2. Repeat the previous step at three or four different positions around the inboard mounting surface of the wheel.

  3. Object Number: 153056 Size: SH
  4. Inspect the mounting wheel/nut holes for damage caused by overtightening the lug nuts. Look for collapsed or cracked wheel/nut bosses.
  5. If the wheel/nut holes or bosses are damaged, replace the wheel.
  6. Clean the wheel rim bead seats using a wire brush or coarse steel wool in order to remove the following contaminants:
  7. • Lubricant
    • Old rubber
    • Rust
  8. Before mounting or dismounting a tire, lubricate the tire bead with an approved tire lubricant.
  9. After mounting a tire, inflate the tire until the beads seat. Do not exceed 275 kPa (40 psi) while seating the beads.
  10. Install the valve core.
  11. Inflate the tire to the pressure shown on the tire placard. Ensure that the ring of the tire shows evenly around the rim flanges on both sides.
